BA Drama & Theatre Ensemble Show 2021: Maybe This Time

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity;

and I’m not sure about the universe” Albert Einstein

We didn’t live through the ’80s. We missed the big hair, the leg warmers, greed being good. We missed the party — because we weren’t born. So why do we feel so nostalgic?

Maybe in another world we were there.

Maybe we still are.

“I won’t cry for yesterday, there’s an ordinary world, somehow I have to find” Duran Duran

Inspired by the Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics, Maybe This Time is a disorienting meditation on parallel universes, where every outcome of every possible outcome to everything that has ever happened (ever) exists, for real, somewhere.

Following a retro-fever-dream-logic that blurs the present with the past, the show asks how our experience of time passing reflects our understanding of reality. Featuring live video, recycled MTV trends and a playlist of absolute bangers (at least for your parents), Maybe This Time is an analogue assault, not just on the senses, but on the mind.

Video killed the radio star. But theatre is about to take a potshot at reality itself…
