PSP Affiliates

Welcome to the Project Space Plus Affiliates blog site.  We have a dedicated team of staff and students who promote and support the work showcased in PSP, please contact Steve Klee for more information.

We want to enlist an Exhibitions Manager and a team of Gallery Assistants.  We are happy to consider role shares for the Exhibitions Manager opportunity.

Each appointment lasts at least one year (though we reserve the right to discontinue the appointment at an earlier stage).

As a student affiliate of PSP, you’ll be proactive, enthusiastic, and enjoy working as a team to achieve something bigger than the sum of its parts!

We are welcoming, considerate, and respectful of each other, generous with our support and feedback, and interested in making the best possible exhibitions, which are accessible to all.

If you’re considering a career or further study in curation, galley/museum management, or as an art technician then here’s a great chance to kick-start that C.V.

Gallery Manager – Role Application:

Are you knowledgeable and passionate about contemporary art, organised, self-reliant, a good communicator both IRL and online? Do you have a passion for curation and see your future-self working in a gallery or museum? If so, this is the role for you.

The Exhibitions Manager (EM) will endeavour to be involved with each, and every external exhibition held at PSP. Starting from the beginning of the process, the EM might attend the 4x yearly PSP Committee meetings to help to select exhibitions from submitted proposals. The EM could also help project manage each exhibition, liaising with PSP committee chair Steve Klee, external artists, and our college technical team. Finally, the EM could well have a hand in the promotion and documentation of each show.

Experiences you could gain:

  • Vetting submitted exhibition proposals
  • Communicating with external artists
  • Liaising with College of Arts technical team, and the Gallery Assistant team
  • Working across all digital platforms
    • Press release and Copy writing
    • Documenting exhibitions
  • Representing the gallery to potential audiences, and contacts
  • Additional administrative and practical tasks required to ensure the smooth running of the gallery

Gallery Assistant – Role Application:

Do you have a flair for the technical skills that underwrite every successful exhibition? Do you enjoy the camaraderie associated with being part of a team? Can you solve practical problems, make all the pieces of a creative puzzle fit together? If so, this is the role for you.

Gallery Assistants (GAs) might provide support for the College technical team as they aid visiting artists to install and deinstall exhibitions. GAs could also be responsible for invigilating exhibitions: making sure the gallery is open, and that exhibits are fully operational, and not damaged, etc. This is also a public facing role, GAs could communicate with visitors sharing their knowledge about – and enthusiasm for – exhibited artworks.

Experiences you could gain:

  • Providing support for CoA technical team
  • Acquiring new skills
  • Risk assessing
  • Communicating with external artists
  • Invigilating exhibitions
  • Representing the gallery to potential audiences (talking to visitors)
  • Assisting ‘exhibition openings’
