MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
University of Lincoln | Lincoln Performing Arts Centre | 26th January 2022
Second year students from the University of Lincoln’s BA Drama and Theatre course are working towards an exciting new performance of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing to be shown at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre on the 26th of January 2022.
The students have worked to adapt and shape this most well known of Shakespeare’s comedies and create a brand new version of the timeless classic, while still retaining the traditional language and themes of love, confusion, quick-wit, and deception.
The student cast have worked as an ensemble on all aspects of the production, from props and costume to assistant directing, choreography and marketing. All this, combined with the casts’ thoughts and ideas about what it is to be young and in love, have created a distinctive approach to this classic Shakespearean play.
Dr James Hudson, Senior Lecturer at the School of Fine and Performing Arts, and Director of the show said: ‘It’s such a pleasure to work with these talented and enthusiastic students on this play, a love story with all the grace, elegance, and class of an octopus falling out of a tree. We’re performing the text anew, and giving it a beach party theme – it starts with Shakespeare and ends with David Hasselhoff faceplanting into a palm tree’.
